Peace to all web travellers, knowledge junkies, Hiphoppas, blog slingers and steady bloggers alike! Welcome to the first post of Blog's Son: a blog that looks at Hip-Hop through the eyes of a Theology student. Or maybe its the other way round...
The idea for this blog came from buying The Gospel of Hip-Hop; legendary emcee KRS-ONE's 'philosophical masterwork' written to preserve and advance the Hip-Hop movement. The book is a dope source for learning about the philosophy of Hip-Hop, and proposes some really interesting ideas. The main one being that, far from being a culture that manifests other religious traditions, Hip Hop is a religious/spiritual movement in-and-of-itself. This blog is therefore an attempt to explore this theme, which I will do by harnessing the book, my experiences of Hip-Hop, and the collective knowledge of the internet community.

But a bit about me...
I've been listening to Hip-Hop for 10 years, and I've been making it myself for about 7 of those..What was an interest, has become an obsession. These days, I almost consider myself an evangelist for Hip-Hop. Someone asks me for a mix, the next day they got a 3 CD personalised selection in their hand. I hear someone hating on Hip-Hop, I'm arguing with them quicker than you can say 'Big Daddy Kane.' And If something gets a mention in a Hip-Hop verse, then damn: I got to have it! Be it clothes, trainers, drink, language, records, whatever; I wanna wear it, walk in it, sip it, say it and spin it. But my love goes beyond just the aesthetics. The more I listened to and learned about the movement and the culture the more I found it resonated with, and shaped, my personal outlook in life. I've always wanted to look deeper at Hip-Hop as a world view and when I was told I had to write a blog for my 'Cyber Religion' module [I'm doing a degree in Theology] I saw it as the perfect opportunity...
The aim then is to bloxplore [get it?] the religiosity of Hip-Hop, looking, where relevant, at KRS's Gospel and utilising the unique medium of the internet to improve the exploration. There aint many Hip Hop blogs that do this sorta thing, so I hope this blog will offer a new perspective that will educate both me the writer and you the readers...
So for that different approach to a Hip Hop blog, check Blog's Son, and please feel free to comment and contribute..
PEACE!
PEACE!
Appendix:
About the name..
Blog's Son is a reference to 'God's Son': a title with obvious religious/theological meaning but it is also the name of Nas' 6th studio album..
